Dublin’s development plan includes HGV ban

Dublin’s draft development plan includes a ban on HGVs entering the city centre during the day, once the Dublin Port Tunnel is completed next year.

The plan, which will go out to public consultation in the coming weeks also includes a ban on so-called super cube trailers from the city centre at all times.

Debating the plan earlier this week Progressive Democrat councillor Wendy Hederman summed up the mood of the councillors. “If they are too big (super cube trucks) for the port tunnel, they are too big for the city centre.

Most other EU counties don’t permit them in cities, so why should we.”
She added: “Our streets were not designed to take these trucks. They have no place in the life of the city centre.”
