Mayo quarry decision set for appeal

Residents in Co. Mayo are set to appeal to An Bord Pleanala over the local county council’s decision to grant planning permission for a quarry at Islandeady, just outside Castlebar.

The council granted Roadstone Provinces Ltd permission to develop a 38-hectare quarry at Islandeady, but objectors say the quarry would increase dust and noise in the area, increase traffic, damage wildlife and affect property values.

Five appeals against the decision have already been lodged with An Bord Pleanala.
