Dublin Port Tunnel will be toll-free for HGVs
Heavy goods vehicles will be exempt from tolls at the Dublin Port Tunnel,
when it opens early next year, Junior Minister at the Department of Transport,
Ivor Callelly has confirmed.
The Junior Minister has confirmed that light commercials with a gross
vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes and vans having with an unladen weight exceeding
1524kgs will also be exempt from the toll.
There will be no toll charges for trucks on the new tunnel which,
which will have double lanes in both bores, Callely confirmed.
Callely also allayed hauliers fears over possible congestion at
the tunnels entry and exit points. The southern and northern
portals will be funnelled and there will be pressure points, he
commented.
However, I have asked the National Roads Authority (NRA) to ensure
that access points will be free-flowing and that there will be no stoppages,
he added.
The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has expressed concerns over
what it terms excessive tolls on the M50, the main feeder
route to and from the port tunnel.
But Callelly says negotiations with all the stakeholders will be entered
into, with a number of incentives on the table, ahead of the tunnels
opening early next year.
