Ford Transit celebrates 40th birthday

The Ford Transit, synonymous with the van scene in Ireland celebrates in 40th anniversary this week.

The first Transit went into production on August 9, 1965. Since then more than 100,000 Transits have been sold in Ireland, over the last 40 years.

There have been four distinctive Transits over the past four decades, with the current Transit range arriving in Ireland in 2000.

A search for Ireland’s oldest Transit in 1995 unearthed a 28-year-old camper van in Letterkenny. Ten years on, owner Michael McGarry recently reported that the van is in tip-top condition.
