Quarry Safety Week
Quarry Safety Week runs from Monday to Friday, August 15 19 inclusive,
with a new initiative launched by the Health and Safety Authority.
The initiative takes the form of a poster that highlights the six critical
risk areas to be given particular attention by quarry workers.
The poster is being circulated to all quarries in the country and the
Health and Safety Authority hopes it will prove to be a useful tool in
imparting critical safety information to all quarry workers.
To complement the poster campaign the authority will be carrying out upwards
on 120 quarry inspections in the coming days to ensure consistency in
the sector.
Senior Inspector Pat Griffin commented: We are very concerned with
having four fatalities already this year, especially after the work that
we, and indeed the industry have done over the last few years.
He continued: We have renewed our determination to ensure that workers
and employers put safety at the top of their agendas and believe that
the employee information poster, if read and followed by workers, along
with the inspections and company initiatives during Quarry Safety Week
will help us to get back on the road towards zero fatalities.
