Labour Court tells Quinn Cement to move to a 39-hour
week
The Labour Court has instructed Quinn Cement to place its workers on a
39-hour week and implement other benefits.
The court says that the company has failed to honour commitments given
earlier in the year on the introduction of a sick pay scheme and revised
disciplinary procedures.
The company has also been instructed to review its disciplinary and grievance
procedures and to make use of the machinery of the State in quoted cases.
The court said it noted the companys intention to introduce a sick-pay
scheme. The court described the scheme as unusual because
it was contributory and had a two-week waiting period.
It told the company to introduce a non-contributory scheme, with a three-day
waiting period, as is the norm elsewhere.
