LCVs to be hit with E12 tunnel toll

Light commercial vehicles will be charged up to E12 for the privilege of using Dublin Port Tunnel when it opens next April, it has been confirmed.

Vehicles with a DGV of less than 3.5 tonnes will be forced to pay the exorbitant toll between 6.00am and 10.00am and between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. Lesser rates will apply at off peak hours.

The National Roads Authority says the tolls charges are not designed to make a profit or to repay the capital cost of the project bust are designed to prevent cars and light commercials from using the tunnel as a “rat run” to and from the city centre.
