Probe to follow collision near oil terminal

An investigation is underway in Galway after an oil tanker and a cargo ship crashed in the city's docks close to a fuel terminal.

The crash happened on Thursday, December 15th. It happened less than 100 metres from several large fuel tanks. It has raised fears that an explosion would cause huge loss of life and calls have been made for the city centre oil terminal to be moved.

An Taisce stated that last week's explosion and fire at the Buncefield oil depot in Britain should serve as a warning.

The Danish-registered Orahope had just discharged over 3,000 tonnes of home heating oil when a cargo ship, the Bytom, collided into it.
