Tyre fitters death recalled
Cork Circuit Criminal Court has heard that a tyre-fitter was crushed to
death while carrying out repairs to a truck.
The court heard on Thursday (February 24) that Stephen Flynn, 22, was
killed when he became trapped under the lorry, when the driver of the
vehicle moved it.
The deceased was removing a jack from underneath the lorry at the time
of the fatal accident.
A Health and Safety investigation was launched following the fatality.
Since the accident, which happened at the premises of Cork Retread Manufacturers,
the company has introduced a new policy whereby possession of the keys
is taken while a vehicle is under repair.
The company was prosecuted for failing to provide a system of work for
servicing of tyres that was planned, organised, performed and maintained
so as to be safe and without risk to health.
The judge fined the company E1,750.
