Drivers bid to beat long haul

Motorists in Co. Meath have expressed their desire not to have to spend up to four hours a day travelling to Dublin to their work place and over a 1,000 have responded to the local authority’s initiative to be relocated in their jobs.
Meath County Council have been advertising on their website for commuters to express their desire not to have to travel long hours every day and a spokesperson for the Council said they were overwhelmed by the response to the initiative set up only six weeks ago.

“We have been amazed at the response we have got since the website was launched in December. We know from earlier research that around 20,000 people spend up to two hours commuting each way between their home in Meath and work in Dublin and I am confident the information we are gathering from the site will become a significant factor when companies are deciding whether to locate outside Dublin,” said Frank Fitzmaurice, the Economic Development Officer with the council.

Reduction of traffic commuting to the capital would be a huge boost to all hauliers who have to make the daily journey to Dublin and would ease congestion considerably.
