Recycling plant runs out of tyres
Ireland's only tyre recycling facility could be forced to close because
it cannot get its hands on enough tyres.
Crum Rubber, outside Dundalk in Co. Louth ran out of tyres on Monday (January
24) despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of end of life tyres are
produced annually.
Crum Rubber MD Leo Kerley said the plant had the facility to recycle 8,000
tyres every day, but can only get its hands on a fraction of that number.
The company has estimated that it only receives about 10 per cent of all
used tyres. Kerley says that tyre depots are charging motorists to properly
dispose of the used tyres and then choosing the illegal option.
He commented: I think they are being dumped illegally or farmers
are just taking them for the sake of taking them.
