Gold medal for tourism and rental
London's successful bid for the 2012 Olympics will mean boom times for
both tourism and rental. So says John Lewis, the BVRLA's Director General.
"Of course, we're delighted that London has won the Olympics, especially
in the face of such stiff opposition. It will prove to be a real fillip
for sport and for tourism. The UK and especially London will be the destination
of choice for tourists in 2012 combining the world's foremost sporting
event with our unique blend of history and culture.
"The huge increase in tourism that we will see in 2012 can only prove
to be good news for the rental industry. Not only will the major companies
benefit, but I foresee that many smaller companies will do so, as well
as the demand for local rental, especially in tourist destinations is
bound to increase.
"However, some rental companies do not operate to BVRLA standards
and I will be urging incoming tourists, and indeed anyone who uses rental
cars at any time, to use only a BVRLA Member with the consequent assurance
that membership of the industry's only trade association brings."
