Man dies in Cork truck accident

A man has died in a collision between a lorry and a parked van on the main Cork to Innishannon road.

The fatal accident happened on Tuesday (July 19) close to the viaduct on the main road between Cork and Innishannon.

The 57-year old road maintenance worker suffered appalling injuries when he became trapped between an articulated lorry and the van from which he was unloading traffic signal cones. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van is understood to have received multiple injuries in the accident.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
The driver of the articulated was treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.
The Gardai sealed off the accident site and major diversions were put in place, while a technical examination of the scene was carried out.

Gardai say road conditions and visibility were good at the time of the fatal accident.
