Culina expands direct daily deliveries to Northern Ireland

UK transport and logistics specialists Culina Logistics is building up a considerable client base in Northern Ireland, the company has reported.

The company, which provides storage and distribution services in the 0-5¼C temperature-controlled food and drink sector entered the market with just a handful of customers in 2004, but demand for its services has been brisk and the company can now boast an impressive client base.

Deliveries are made to distribution centres for major retailers Tesco in Belfast and Safeway in Larne, along with Musgraves, Ireland’s largest grocery distributor, which also has a centre in Belfast.

Previously, products from Culina’s customers were consolidated in the North of England and delivered to Northern Ireland by a third party haulier.
There are several key benefits for customers, including significant cost savings due to direct delivery, removal of double handling to reduce potential stock damage and improvements to on-time deliveries.

According to supply chain development manager, Andy Newnes, Culina’s service typically delivers order pick accuracy figures of 99.995% for chilled food and drink manufacturers across Britain.

“The service we have established to Northern Ireland is an extension of our recognised mainland network,” said Newnes. “It enhances the existing partnerships we have with customers.” He added the company is confident that volumes to Northern Ireland will continue to grow.
