Residents object to meat and bonemeal incinerator plans
Residents in Kinnegad Co. Westmeath have strenuously objected to a cement
companys plans to burn meat and bonemeal in its incinerators.
Lagan Cement has applied to Westmeath County Council for planning permission
for a new incineration facility, which it claims will generate a more
environmentally friendly fuel source.
However, residents have lodged more than 300 objections to the planned
facility. Ballinabrackey and District Environemntal Action Group spokesman
says that meat and bonemeal has never been incinerated in Ireland before.
Lagan say they will be burning at 1,400 degress and that is possibly
high enough to do no harm, but why should we have to wait 5 years to see
if that is actually the case, he commented.
