Port of Calais a security risk RHA
A major security issue has arisen at the Port of Calais as a result of
long delays at the port, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) in Britain
has claimed.
A reduction in loading capacity at the port has meant that long queues
are now a common occurrence. UK bound hauliers are queuing for ferries
and this is exposing them to the actions of illegal immigrants, some of
who resort to violence and intimidation in order to access vehicles,
RHA chief executive Roger King commented.
The current position means that trucks are parked up for a long
time. We know of several cases where illegals are exploiting an opportunity.
The French police and the Calais Port Authority do not seem to appreciate
the problem, or the consequences for the haulier.
The RHA has called on the Home Office to put pressure on the French authorities
to step up security at the port.
