Customs officers seize truck and smuggled cigarettes

Customs officers have seized more than E1.5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes along with a truck and trailer, following a raid on a warehouse in Drogheda.

The officers swooped on Wednesday (March 16) after following the truck from Dublin Port, where the cigarettes arrived on a container from Rotterdam.
It is understood the “Regal” cigarettes originated in the Ukraine and had been ferried by sea from the Black Sea port of Odessa to Dublin via Rotterdam.

A man with an address in Co. Monaghan is now helping the revenue commissioners with their enquiries.
