Digital tachograph deadline postponed by a year

The European Parliament’s transport committee has decided to postpone the compulsory fitting of digital tachographs in new HGVs until August 2006.

The new rules were due to come into force this August, but the transport committee voted last week to put the deadline back by a year.
The postponement means that all new vehicles manufactured after August 5, 2006 must be fitted with a digital tachograph.

Vehicles manufactured before the August 2006 deadline, will have to be retro-fitted with digital tachographs by August 2007.
The amendments will now go before the Council of Ministers for approval.
