Health and safety crackdown in Cork

Work at 19 building sites and a quarry in Cork has ceased, following inspections by the Health and Safety Authority.

H.S.A. boss Tom Beegan said on Tuesday (March 23) the crackdown in the county would continue until employers realise that safety couldn’t be compromised and taken for granted.

During a four-week blitz the H.S.A. conducted 430 spot checks and found that more than 10 per cent of the workplaces inspected had safety problems.
