Gardai still searching for fuel tanker

Gardai are still searching for a fuel tanker, which left a 35-mile trail of diesel from the south Tipperary town of Bansha all the way to Callan in Co. Kilkenny.

A Garda spokesman says the truck had either Northern Ireland or English registration plates, but didn’t appear to have any other markings.

“We are still looking for the truck. We are not sure if the driver realised the truck was leaking when he got to Callan and fixed the problem, or whether the truck had simply leaked all the fuel. Either way, the trail dried up in Callan,” the Garda spokesman commented.
There were numerous accidents along the route as a result of the spillage and seven people were taken to hospital.
