Cash in transit drivers are “fall guys” – SIPTU

Cash in transit drivers are being treated as “fall guys”, according to the SIPTU trade union.

In the wake of Wednesday’s (March 30) E2.7 million heist, SIPTU branch secretary Kevin McMahon said the level of armed Garda / Army protection did not match the threat from criminal gangs, and predicted robberies of this nature are set to continue.

McMahon said the 600 cash in transit drivers in the country are being exposed to unacceptable risks and are the ones “who have had guns put to their heads.”
