Health and Safety Authority to launch summer safety
blitz
The Health and Safety Authority is preparing to carry out a countrywide
inspection blitz in a bid to halt spiralling fatalities in the quarrying
and construction sectors.
Inspectors will visit sites across the country throughout the summer to
ensure safety regulations are being enforced.
The authority has warned that non-compliant sites will be shut down and
that prosecutions will be taken.
So far this year 23 people have been killed in work related accidents.
Nine deaths occurred in the quarrying and construction sectors.
This is about people in charge of sites taking responsibility to
make sure they have a safe site. Well be very insistent that there
is compliance with the law and the regulations. We wont have any
tolerance, chief executive Tony Beegan commented.
