Haulage firm negotiating Eur15 million tyre recycling deal

Midwest Transport are currently in negotiations with a U.S waste firm to invest Eur15 million in a tyre-recycling plant in the Shannon area.

The Tipperary-based company have announced they are in discussion with EarthFirst Technologies of Tampa, Florida over the sale of their proposed tyre-recycling plant. The U.S company are to establish three plants, one in Ireland and two in Britain.
"We're in a due-diligence process. We've seen the technology and we're excited by its capability," said Midwest Transport chief financial officer Tim Ryan.

"We feel that it's environmentally friendly and it will solve the environmental problem in this country caused by scrapped tyres.
"Subject to satisfactory due diligence and planning approval, the first plant would be established in the Shannon region."
