Transport plan to take toll on roads
The Governments transport plan is likely to result in tolls becoming
a reality on major roads throughout the country.
Speaking at the launch in Dublin Castle on Tuesday, November 1st, Transport
Minister Martin Cullen stated that drivers would be prepared to pay
a small fee to use a much-improved road system.
He added that most of the network would remain un-tolled.
A high percentage of the funding for the 10-year Transport 21 blueprint
will come from the private sector. It has been reported that E2bn is set
for toll roads.
Minster Cullen claims that public private partnerships have delivered
roads much more quickly and within budget.
I have no issue with regard to tolling; its a legitimate part
of the development of a first-class network, he said.
