Survey shows petrol prices drop despite overall rise
Petrol prices have fallen by 7.3%, according to the latest results of
an AA survey, with the motoring body saying that a litre of petrol now
costs 109.9 cent (on average.
Diesel prices have also dropped. The average price of a litre of diesel
is now 110.8 cent, a 2.3 cent drop on October prices.
AA spokesman Conor Faughnan welcomed the drop in prices, indicating that
it was a relief for drivers but that motoring expenses still
exceeded the prices at the beginning of 2005.
The association is now calling on Finance Minister Brian Cowen to reduce
excise duty charged on petrol and diesel in the December budget.
Mr Faughnan said that drivers were still under pressure because of high
fuel prices.
The high price of fuel has placed a huge burden on motorists and
on businesses throughout 2005.
The Department of Finance is supposed to be on our side, and ordinary
consumers badly need the relief, he said.
