Mayo residents manage to overturn quarry plans

Residents in Mayo have won their battle against plans for a major limestone quarry near Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Roadstone Provinces Limited planned the development but An Bord Pleanala has rejected plans by the company to develop a 38-hectare quarry at Islandeady.

Residents were against the development because of the heavy traffic which would result. Roadstone are set to leave its premises in Castlebar soon because limestone supplies are being reduced.
