Government transport plan set to be approved
The Governments 10-year strategic transport plan which will, among
other things, include the extension of the Luas system, will be brought
to Cabinet for approval on Tuesday, November 1st.
The plan includes the States commitment of almost E10 billion to
finish the inter-urban motorway programme in the next five years.
Rail and public transport are likely to bring the total cost closer to
E20 billion.
A number of extensions are planned. In relation to the National Roads
Programme, the 10-year strategic plan provides for the completion of the
inter-urban motorway programme and improvements to inter-regional roads,
especially the western road corridor.
Provisions for the outer orbital motorway around Dublin is included although
this is not expected to be completed for 10 years.
This runs from Drogheda, through Navan, Trim and Kilcock, to Naas.
