Motorists hit in the pocket again

The annual cost of running a typical family car has jumped by almost 3,000 euros in the past five years.

The average cost of running a car in 2000 was 4,751 euros but that has jumped to 7,749 euros this year.
And worse is to come as the effect of rule changes from the EU really kick in over the next couple of years.

Irish franchise dealers have been forced to invest between 50,000 euros and five million euros in their businesses in recent times and these costs are now set to be passed onto motorists.
