Slow-moving trucks causes traffic chaos

A convoy of hauliers protesting over the cost of diesel fuels have caused traffic disruption in Dublin city centre.

The hauliers drove down the M1 motorway from Ardee in Co. Louth, accompanied by gardai on motorcycles.
The group say they want the Government to reduce the tax take from the overall price of diesel fuel to reduce their own costs.
Spokesperson Kieron McKenna said the lorry drivers wanted to see a 15% reduction in the price of diesel.

Although he knew that the protest would create more problems for commuters, he stated that fuel costs “hit everyone’s pockets”.
“The Government has got very greedy. They don’t seem to want to do anything about the price of fuel. We are working hard to pay all this tax, but it’s not going to hospitals or anything which we can see. It’s a disgrace,” he said.
