Irving Oil make bid

Irving Oil has made a formal bid for the 256 Statoil filing stations around the country according to a morning newspaper report.

However, the Canadian company faces stiff competition from a number of companies who have also expressed an interest in the Statoil franchise worth millions.
DCC and the Musgrave Group have formed a consortium to place a bid, while the Irish operators of the Applegreen network and the Topaz consortium have also expressed an interest.

It is not known how much any companies have bid for the franchise, which has become one of the biggest in the country since the early nineties.
