Port firm furious over Tunnel claims
Dublin City Councils consideration of forcing trucks to use the
Port Tunnel has been met with anger by one of the biggest container companies
in the country.
Marine Terminals Ltd (MTL) has threatened to sue the local authority if
the proposal goes ahead as they feel it will add a huge expense to their
expenditure for the year.
With trucks being forced to pay E4.80 for each passing truck through the
East Link Tolls, the freight company have stressed that the could cost
for the year could be in the region of E7.2 million.
At the moment, truck drivers have a choice they can go over
East Link, down the canal, along Pearse Street or anywhere they like.
Our difficulty is with a toll being placed in the middle of the port when
they have no alternative but to use the East Link, said MTL general
manager Eamonn Sullivan. We will do everything we can to protect
ourselves.
