HGV strategy accepted by Dublin City Council
Dublin City Councillors took an unexpected turn as they voted to introduce
a complete ban on large lorries on roads around the city centre a year
earlier than planned at a meeting on Monday evening April 11th.
Earlier, the councillors voted unanimously to accept the councils
strategy for heavy goods vehicles travelling in the city, while a proposal
to extend the ban to smaller trucks has been deferred.
The strategy voted in will see trucks with five axles or more banned from
using the city centre between 7am and 7pm. This will come into affect
two months after the Port Tunnel opens.
Councillors raised concerns that unless the ruling was properly enforced,
then it would be a total waste of time.
Hauliers are reported to be furious over the local authoritys decision
and there is a possibility that they may take legal action against the
strategy.
