Cars being deterred from Port Tunnel

Dublin City Council have sent a clear message to motorists that the Port Tunnel is only to be used by articulated trucks and light commercials after a high toll charge was places on cars.

Motorists will have to pay E12 for the use of the tunnel at peak times in the morning and the evening, while they will have to pay E6 during off-peak times.

“The toll charges have been set at a level appropriate to limit the potential for traffic congestion to occur within the tunnel in accordance with safe tunnel operating practice and with the recent EU directive on tunnel safety,” said an NRA spokesman.
