Waste crisis in Limerick averted
The fears of where over 3,000 Limerick residents were going to dump their
rubbish has been calmed as waste company Mr Binman has agreed to collect
the refuse.
The company is the largest of their kind in the mid-west and having purchased
the entire customer base of the now defunct Limerick Waste recycling from
the liquidator, Mr Binman will collect the backlog as a goodwill gesture.
Limerick Councillor Jim Long expressed his delight over the news and admitted
that a real crisis had been averted, although he expressed a concern over
the companys monopoly on waste collection in the county.
This is a situation that we will definitely have to examine again.
When councillors voted in favour of privitisation we did so in anticipation
of competition in the market, but now the biggest service provider appears
to have a virtual monopoly, said Long.
