Waterford Council consider cancelling refuse collection

Waterford residents reluctance to pay the annual refuse collection flat fee of E150 has resulted in the local authority threatening to cancel the service altogether.

Over 3,000 customers have been asked to pay the flat fee, however at the moment less than 70% have done so and Waterford council’s director of services Denis McCarthy stated that the service may be forced to cease.
“A few months down the road we will have to reassess the situation and consider either curtailing the service in certain areas or even dis-continuing it entirely.

“That would be a last resort and would be a decision we would very much regret having to take,” said McCarthy.
