Man faces jail over car price-fixing cartel

A man has been charged at Cork District Court with the illegal fixing of prices for Ford cars in Ireland, which carries a sentence of five years in jail if convicted.

Denis Manning, 11 Allendale Avenue, Melbourne Estate, Bishopstown, Cork faced two charges at the sitting in Cork on Wednesday 19th April. The defendant will face two counts that accuse him of aiding and abetting the Irish Ford Dealers Association in the fixing of sale prices for cars.

Manning could face up to five years in jail or a €4 million fine if found guilty. The DPP have brought the case to court after a Competition Authority investigation that has been running for two years found irregularities in the defendant’s business.
Recently the Competition Authority brought a successful case against an oil price-fixing cartel in Co. Galway.
