Lorries banned from Port tunnel lanes
The Dublin Port Tunnel, which is being constructed for the purpose of
redirecting heavy goods vehicles away from the city centre, will have
two lanes truck free.
The tunnel has cost in the region of E775 million to develop over the
last five years and is due to be opened in November. However, it has been
confirmed by Dublin City Council that trucks will be banned from using
two of the four lanes.
The ban comes about after the Irish Road Haulage Association revealed
that trucks emerging northbound from the tunnel will have to use the over-taking
lane of the motorway at Whitehall, which is now a penalty points
offence.
