Investigation into Mayo’s waste

Reports that private waste management firms are dominating the market in Co. Mayo has resulted in an investigation being launched by the Competition Authority.

Mayo County Council officials have been spoken too by the Authority to explain why private firms dominate so much of the market for the past few years.
The Competition Authority has also discussed the matter with five waste management companies in the area and raided their premises for evidence on the subject.

A number of home heating oil companies in the West have already suffered the wrath of the Competition Authority when they were found guilty of price-fixing.
