Car firms annoyed at new policy

Car firms have been told that they must pay for the free facilities being established for motorists who are getting rid of their old vehicles.

The sight of old cars being dumped in fields and at the side of the road will become a thing of the past and the AA have called on the Government to offer the public a €250 rebate to take part in the initiative.
The Authorised Treatment Facilities will begin operating from January 1st next year and when car owners leave vehicles at the centres, they will be handed certificates of destruction.

Car firms will have to fork out for registration fees that could run into millions of euro and they are far from happy with having to do so.
