Lorry abandoned under Bridge

Gardai have launched an investigation into why a lorry carrying 36 tonnes of acid diesel sludge was abandoned under a bridge on the M1 in Co. Louth.

The waste diesel was found in barrels in the back of a container at the Dunleer exit under the M1 motorway and it is alleged that the lorry had travelled from the North.
When agricultural diesel is filtered to remove a marker dye, the cheaper diesel is sold on at the same rate as normal diesel and makes a tidy profit.
Gardai are working with the PSNI in order to find out who was behind the attempted robbery, while the diesel will be sent to Germany for disposal.
