Truck driver pleads not guilty to life endangerment
A truck driver who was arrested for the endangerment of a Gardai has pleaded
not guilty to the charge at a sitting of Trim Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Kevin Ducie, (27), was arrested after being apprehended by gardai for
questioning over another incident. The accused fled when gardai approached
a truck that his brother was driving.
However, when the defendants brother got out of the vehicle, Lucie
jumped into the driver seat and sped off with Garda Sergeant James Troy
hanging from a handrail.
The jury heard that the lorry was driven against a hedge until the garda
fell off the side of the truck and when the gardai found the abandoned
lorry on a building site, they could not find Lucie anywhere, but he was
later apprehended.
He denies the charge and claims that he was being attacked at the time
and panicked before fleeing the scene. The trial continues this morning.
