EPA seeking approval for emissions plan

It has been reported that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is looking for EU approval for its second National Allocation Plan for emissions trading.

It is part of the plan to ensure that Ireland meets targets set down under the Kyoto treaty. Any company which breaks its allocations will be fined E100 per tonne under the plan.

Taxpayers will have to give up to E500m in fines for state facilities which emit too much carbon.
