No waste in the waste business with a new workshop and stores system

Limiting vehicle down time and running vehicles economically is crucially important for Mr Bin Man in Limerick. Being in control really matters with their mixed fleet of more than 100 vehicles collecting refuse from three counties and a range of plant on hire.

Their reasons for choosing the Trace System included it being simple to use and getting to the information and answers they wanted immediately. Every week some 10-20 vehicles are serviced and maintained in Mr Bin Mans in house workshops. Services are mostly based on time and some on mileages. Now we always have the parts for a service ahead of the job, keep to minimum stock levels and know where they all are, said Anthony O'Rourke the leading Trace user. For him the result is clear to see. We don't have vehicles off road waiting for parts, the parts are ready and waiting for the vehicles," he said. That has saved the costs of sending out another vehicle on overtime and the problems of collections outside of normal schedules. When non-stock parts are needed they are ordered to the job card without creating a stock item for a once-only component. For Mr Bin Man it saves time and money as still logs the part of the vehicle.

The parts store and ordering is now under total control and workshop job cards record parts used and work done to each vehicle. One result is the vehicle history file beginning to show the running cost for each vehicle and plant item. This will inform Mr Bin Man's decisions on vehicle replacement timing. The objective is to have the highest level of vehicle up time in line with a safe and most economical pattern for service, maintenance and replacement. Without the Trace System there is no way we could know that. Now we know at the click of a button. It will make us more efficient and improve our service level to customers, said Mr O'Rourke.

Commenting on Mr Bin Man decision to use the Trace System Anthony O'Rourke said, " All their staff and training are excellent. The techinical support is outstanding on site or by phone and the Trace system is superb. We would be lost without it and it will pay for itself it no time.
