Ferry services set to increase on Irish Sea route
Two new freight ferry services have been introduced on the Irish Sea route
to meet the growing demand for transport between Dublin and Britain.
Stena Line is planning to increase its service on the Dublin to Holyhead
route in the middle of summer with the introduction of a second ship,
Stena Seatrader. The firm already has a sailing service on the route from
Dublin Port twice a day.
A Wexford fishing family has brought about a new service between Dublin
and Liverpool. The family hopes to add a second ship to the run later
in the summer.
Celtic Link Ferries Ltd was set up by the six OFlaherty brothers
from Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford. The family owns a fleet of fishing vessels
and a processing factory, Saltees Fish Ltd.
One of the brothers, Denis OFlaherty said that the Celtic Star vessel
had been charted from a Greek firm to serve the new Dublin-Liverpool route.
Negotiations are taking place to buy the ship.
Dublin Port Company chief executive Enda Connellan was happy with the
plan. He warned, though, that national and local government had to make
approval of extra capacity at the port a priority.
