Judge dismisses illegal dumping charge
A judge dismissed a charge on Tuesday, June 13th about how racketeers
are going around isolated farms trying to get landowners to use bogland
to illegally dump waste.
The waste is brought from Dublin and other large centres of population.
The disclosure was made at Carrickmacross District Court, Co. Monaghan,
against Peter Connolly, Cornalaragh. He pleaded not guilty to a charge
relating to the illegal dumping near his property, contrary to the Waste
Management Act, in July 2005.
After Judge Flann Brennan heard that Mr Connolly was not the registered
owner of the site, he dismissed the charge. Detective Garda Robert Ogle
told the court gardai found the dump after a complaint from Monaghan County
Council.
