Gardai examine illegal dump as Council warn of prosecution

A Garda investigation into the illegal dumping of household and construction waste at Tymoole, Rathfeigh, Co. Meath started on Tuesday, June 21st.

Gardai began by sealing off the area. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Meath County Council are also involved in the investigation.
The investigation involves gardai from Navan and members of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The site sealed off and from which samples were taken to find out what is under the ground, measures 150m by 40m. It was identified in an EPA report published in 2005 because of “unauthorised waste activity”.

The land was sold to a sports organisation. It is thought the group had no idea it may have been used for dumping.
A Garda source said that one of the areas of concern is how close the river Nanny is. A Meath County Council spokeswoman said the council was part of an operation which intended prosecuting.
