Kilkenny Council defends quality of water supply

Kilkenny County Council has stated that the public water supply in both the city and county is safe and has taken local media to task for reporting otherwise.

It had been stated in local media that sewage had contaminated drinking water. However, a spokesman for the council said that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had analysed the samples. These were found not to go over legal limits. The EPA will continue to monitor the scene.

Locals say that samples had been taken and that the situation was worsening.
