Meath quarry owner rejects threats

A quarry owner in County Meath has denied any involvement with threats made against people who have made complaints about a quarry at Knockmooney, near Slane, Co. Meath.

Patrick Shiels said he had no part to play in any of the threats.
“It’s a disgrace. It’s someone trying to cause trouble – I condemn it totally,” he said.
Locals say that dust and noise levels from a quarry at Knockmooney, near Slane in Co. Meath are ruining their lives.
Finbarr Wall, a haulier, said he had been shocked to hear a voice warning that if the quarry shut down, a local haulier’s firm would also be closed.

Meath East Fine Gael TD Shane McEntee said that the quarry had been working seven days a week and that crushers had been working at 10pm.
“It is definitely causing serious local concerns and is totally unacceptable,” he said.
Larry Whelan, a senior planner at Meath County Council, said the council had sent out a warning letter to the quarry’s owner, Patrick Shiels. This gave details of its intention to impose conditions on his operation.
