Meath quarry owner rejects threats
A quarry owner in County Meath has denied any involvement with threats
made against people who have made complaints about a quarry at Knockmooney,
near Slane, Co. Meath.
Patrick Shiels said he had no part to play in any of the threats.
Its a disgrace. Its someone trying to cause trouble
I condemn it totally, he said.
Locals say that dust and noise levels from a quarry at Knockmooney, near
Slane in Co. Meath are ruining their lives.
Finbarr Wall, a haulier, said he had been shocked to hear a voice warning
that if the quarry shut down, a local hauliers firm would also be
closed.
Meath East Fine Gael TD Shane McEntee said that the quarry had been working
seven days a week and that crushers had been working at 10pm.
It is definitely causing serious local concerns and is totally unacceptable,
he said.
Larry Whelan, a senior planner at Meath County Council, said the council
had sent out a warning letter to the quarrys owner, Patrick Shiels.
This gave details of its intention to impose conditions on his operation.
