Quarry owners shed light on Roscommon diesel spillage

The source of how the diesel spillage occurred in Roscommon, cutting the water supply to over 5,000 houses in the area has been revealed by the owners of a local quarry.

The Roscommon County Council have been forced to leave tanks of water in Elphin, Strokestown and Tarmonbarry after they were forced to cut the water supply to the houses.
An investigation began immediately into how the diesel leaked into the lake, but the confusion has been quickly sorted following the release of a statement by Hanly Brothers Laragan (HBL).

“The likely source is adjacent to the perimeter of the HBL quarry site and the spillage appears to have occurred during a routine diesel delivery by an oil company last Friday.

“The matter may be the subject of litigation with the oil company. We await conclusive findings from Roscommon County Council and have committed all available resources to assist in the clean up operation.”
