Dublin Port celebrated another record year in 2005, which is now their
14th in succession as throughput for the year reached an incredible 27
tonnes.
Only 12 months earlier the company had reached 25.3 million tonnes, while
the cruise line business through the port also seen a rise in their growth.
Dublin Port Chairman Joe Burke admitted that the lack of room at the port
was a major cause for concern during 2006, especially as throughput continues
to rise.
The Irish exporters association recently published a report on the
capacity constraints facing Dublin Port Company. They concluded that unless
immediate investment is made, port congestion would prove to be the biggest
single challenge facing the Irish export industry over the coming years,
said Burke.
